AWF WILL RATE Vote Against S-MINER
Unnecessary and ill-conceived regulations are not the answer to mine safety
Washington, D.C. – On behalf of the Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF), and millions of working citizens across America, I am urging you to oppose H.R. 2768, the so-called, “Supplemental Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response (S-MINER) Act of 2007.” This Act will place unnecessary and burdensome regulations on the mining industry and imposes more than $1 billion in additional private sector mandates.

„« National Mining Association companies have invested over $250 million in MINER Act compliance – additional unnecessary regulations are not needed
„« The MINER Act included two studies, on “belt air” and on “refuge chambers” which are due this year. No legislation should be considered until all the facts are known.
„« $121 million in discretionary authorizations over five years
„« At least 12 new private sector mandates totaling more than $1 billion.
„« Committee action did not allow for representatives of the National Mining Association, who represent 75 percent of the mining workforce WERE NOT ALLOWED TO TESTIFY
