GAO Unionization Precisely the Wrong Step
Labor Analysts Condemn Growing Trend

Washington, D.C. — Alliance for Worker Freedom (AWF) Director of Policy Brian M. Johnson today issued a statement regarding the recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) employee vote to form a labor union. Currently, 1,800 analysts will be represented under a union with more than 65 percent of the 1,342 who voted supported unionization.

“Over the past decade, we have seen a dramatic drop in private sector union membership and an increase in public sector membership.” says Johnson. “Specifically in the federal government the formation of unions undermines the federal personnel structure at the expense of those who voted against unionization.”

The GAO union will be a member of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers, an umbrella organization that includes the Congressional Research Employees Association and others.

“Many workers chose employment with the federal government because it remained a refuge where union-thugs could not control their members and use their dues for personal gain. Now, by compromising the time-honored federal personnel structure, employees that deserved pay raises, many whom were counting and depending on that raise, are not going to receive it due to the passing of this union decision.”

Johnson adds, “Now, you tell me if that increases or decreases worker freedom?”
