New York: Teachers Labor Unions Picket Outside SWCS

LAKEWOOD — Members of teachers and labor unions from around Chautauqua County are supporting the Southwestern Central School Teachers Association in their quest for a new contract.
‘‘We’ve been doing picketing because we have been without a contract for two years,’’ said Sandra Munsee, Southwestern Teachers Association co-president outside the district’s middle school. ‘‘We have a lot of support in the county.’’
Teachers from Brocton, Dunkirk, Falconer, Jamestown and other districts, labor union members, New York State United Teachers representatives and Southwestern Central School retirees carried signs saying ‘‘2 years too long’’ and ‘‘Contract Now,’’ and shouted chants demanding a new contract outside the Southwestern Central School Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
