Ohio: Union Developing Presence in Chillicothe-Ross County Area

According to the Chillicothe Gazette:

The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 189 is opening new doors in Chillicothe and the Ross County area. Local 189 is developing our market presence in Ross County by expanding our membership and building higher standards of living through decent wages, health care benefits and pensions.

Our goal is to develop partnerships with local mechanical contractors to provide highly trained plumbers and pipefitters to compliment their work force while providing our members in Ross County safe, well-paying jobs, adequate health care benefits and sound pensions.

Local 189 has asked David Pinkerton, owner of Advanced Services, to provide his employees a better work environment. A majority of employees at Advanced Services asked Local 189 to stand up for them and address their concerns. Unfortunately, he declined Local 189's offer. But this has not deterred the union.

On the behalf of the workers at Advanced Services, the union asked the National Labor Relations Board, a branch of the federal government, to conduct an election on the matter. It seems the workers will have their say Friday, Nov. 30.
