SEIU unveils its new recruitment strategy in Pennsylvania: narcissistic, anti-altruism. In Allentown, PA a young Boy Scout, Kevin Anderson, has been heavily criticized by Service Employees International Union (SEIU) for spending over 200 hours clearing a walking path in his hometown. You see, Mr. Anderson did not sign a collective bargaining agreement; only unionized workers should be allowed to clean up communities, on the clock, of course. "There’s to be no volunteers," said the President of the local Allentown SEIU chapter, Nick Balzano.

Balzano, was none too pleased to hear about Mr. Anderson’s community service and considered filing a grievance, reports The Morning Call. "We'll be looking into the Cub Scout or Boy Scout who did the trails," Balzano told the council.

What drove unions to the brink of insanity, attacking Boy Scouts? Layoffs. With unemployment at over 10%, nationally, every business is slimming down its payroll. Times are tough for Americans looking for work, but unlike the rest of the country, unions, especially government employees, feel that they are entitled to their job. They take every layoff personally and respond with picket lines, or threats, in this case against a 17-year-old.

When asked why he decided to clean up the 165-mile Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, Anderson said, “I decided to do my part in completing this part of the trail. In that way, others could enjoy walking along the river, without having to walk on the busy road.” Upon hearing about Mr. Anderson’s community service, er- job killing act one SEIU member said to another, probably, “who does this little brat think he is?”

I know unions are in desperate need of a makeover, public opinion has fallen off a cliff, but attacking boy scouts seems like a losing platform. Whose next, Pennsylvania’s nuns? Luckily, Balzano has called off the dogs, for now, saying “We are probably going to let this one go," phew. Boy Scouts everywhere can sleep easy tonight.
